EPISODE 27 OF

Hello lovelies,

Welcome to Episode 27 of the Get Knit Done podcast.

A little change of plan this week!  The original plan was to talk about how the book Hyperfocus has changed how I think about knitting but I didn’t quite get to the end of the book so I’m finally talking about 3 of the major factors in Knitting Pattern design.

For me, the three key aspects of pattern design are:

  1. The Design
    1. Why it varies from designer to designer
    2. My own basic method
  2. Pattern Writing
    1. Understanding how something is knit
    2. Understanding how to clearly writing knitting instructions
    3. 3 professional aspects: Templates & consistent terms, multiple sizes & investing in a tech editor
  3. Marketing and Selling
    1. Knowing who is going to buy your pattern and how you will make them aware of it

Mentioned in this episode:

  1.  The Adobe Creative Quiz: Visit https://mycreativetype.com
  2.  Marna of An Caitin Beag: https://caitinbeag.com
  3.  Bronagh Miskelly: https://www.facebook.com/BronaghKnits
  4.  Croquis (templates for sketching)
  5.  Kate Atherley’s Pattern Design book: https://kateatherley.com/beginners-guide-to-writing-knitting-patterns/

I’d love to hear from anyone interested in a course in basic knitting pattern design.  I’ll be doing a micro-course for Knit School in July of this year but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t add a lot more detail to make it available to everyone!

You’ll find my designs here:

Etsy: https://knitschool.etsy.com

Ravelry: https://www.ravelry.com/designers/michelle-gregory

Payhip (not as many!): https://payhip.com/MichelleGregoryDesigns

Oh and as promised … a sketch or two of mine along with what they became … if you ever needed proof that you don’t have to be able to sketch!

I’ll be back next week when I’ll be talking about the book Hyper Focus and how it has changed how I look not only at how I work but also at how I knit!

Take care lovelies. Now, go get Knit done!

HEY, I'M MICHELLE!

I started Knit School and the Get Knit Done podcast because I met a lot of knitters who were nervous about taking the leap to more advanced patterns & techniques and I wanted to help knitters to feel that they CAN KNIT ANYTHING they want!  Knitting is definitely not rocket science and everyone can be an awesome knitter including you!
