Get Knit Done Ep 002: Give yourself a break, shownotes
Updated: 13 hours ago
Following on from episode 1, where I talk about not letting the knitting police get to you, in this episode, I talk about not letting you get you! We can be so critical of ourselves when our projects don’t come out quite the way we want!
I talk about three areas that I think we all find tricky at different times!
1. Knit for the life you have, not the one you want
2. Comparison is the thief of joy
3. Knitting is a skill, give yourself time
In the first, I talk about how sometimes we scold ourselves for not knitting our pinnacle knits but that sometimes you have to knit what fits into your life.
The second is something I think is true not only in knitting but also in our everyday lives. It has almost become cliched to say that you shouldn’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle but it is so true in knitting. You can’t have as much experience in 12 months as someone has had in a lifetime so be kind and patient with yourself!
I drag out my orange box for the third point, but don’t worry, I do put it back fairly quickly, when talking about how knitting is more than just a hobby, it’s a skill and can be quite tricky to be bad at so you should definitely cut yourself some slack!
In the next episode, I’ll be talking about Yarn Substitution and some simple tips for getting started with it. I am definitely going to be saying the S word!
